Shingles

Shingles Vaccinations are available at the DOC Pharmacy at no cost to employees and dependents.

Shingles (herpes zoster) is a painful skin rash, caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. The shingles vaccine contains a weakened form of the virus and helps to stimulate the immune system to fight off disease and reduce the risk of getting shingles in people aged 50 and older. If you've had shingles, the vaccine may also help prevent a recurrence.

The shingles vaccine is available to County health plan members, at no cost, at the DOC Pharmacy. No appointment is necessary. A prescription is required for people between the ages of 50 and 60. Those over the age of 60 do not need a doctor’s prescription. Make an appointment at the Deschutes Onsite Clinic (DOC) or your regular healthcare provider if you’d like to speak to a healthcare professional for more information.

Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis/whooping cough

The Oregon Health Authority recommends that adults who have not received a Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis/whooping cough) vaccine since 2005 receive a single dose regardless of whether and when they received a separate Td (Tetanus) booster.

Anyone enrolled in the County Employee Benefits Plan, including employees (and their dependents) of Deschutes county or COIC, retirees, and people enrolled in COBRA coverage may use the Deschutes Onsite Clinic (DOC)DOC Pharmacy, and Well Connect. The clinic practitioners will see adults and children ages two years and older.

DOC services are not available to the general public. Please visit the Deschutes County Health Services department for services offered to the public.
