Do you accept office metered postmarks (Pitney Bowes, etc) for property tax due dates?

No, per ORS 305.820 and ORS 311.505, Deschutes County Tax Collector only accepts the official post mark date stamp from the United States Postal Service or private express carrier (UPS, FedEx, Etc.)

Paid off your mortgage, refinanced, or brand new loan?

Every year in September the mortgage companies request the tax accounts they anticipate paying in November. This is how the mortgage information shows up on your tax bill every year. If you have paid off your mortgage, refinanced, or have a brand new loan since July 1st it is possible that the lender information may be incorrect. It is the property owner's responsibility to know whether or not they need to pay or their mortgage company will be paying the taxes. Generally, if you receive a yellow bill from the County this indicates a lender has requested your information.

What if I do not pay my personal property taxes?

  • The total tax levied on personal property becomes delinquent whenever any installment is not paid on or before the due date. The Tax Collector may send a notice of delinquency showing the total amount due, including interest, when any tax payment is not made.

If no payment is made in response to the delinquency notice, the Tax Collector must;

  • Issue a property tax warrant (a lien and a $53.00 fee applied to account).

Why did I receive a business personal property tax statement?

  • You had taxable business personal property in your possession in Deschutes County on January 1.
  • Taxable personal property includes machinery, equipment, furniture, etc. used previously or presently in a business. This includes any property not currently being used, placed in storage, or held for sale.

Why am I receiving more than one tax statement?

  • If your tax lot is split by multiple taxing code areas, you will receive one statement for each code.
  • Similarly, personal property and utility property may reside in multiple taxing code areas.
  • If you own both a manufactured structure and the land on which it resides, but the names are not identical.

When will I receive my property tax statement?

Property tax statements will be mailed no later than October 25th. If you have not received your statement by November 1, please call 541-388-6540.
