News Release - NBA Players E.J. and Kyle Singler Team Up with Deschutes and Jackson County Clerks to Encourage Voter Participation

Deschutes County Clerk Nancy Blankenship and Jackson County Clerk Chris Walker have teamed up with NBA players E.J. and Kyle Singler – both Oregon natives – to encourage young voters to participate in the electoral process.

Kyle Singler played for South Medford High School, Duke University and currently plays small forward in the NBA for the Oklahoma City Thunder. E.J. Singler played for South Medford High School, University of Oregon and currently plays small forward for the Raptors 905 (Canadian Professional Basketball Team in the NBA Development League).

The brothers volunteered their time and talents to create the videos that will air in Central Oregon, Southern Oregon and northern California counties. They will also be promoted on social media platforms.

“Voting is important – it helps shape our lives, our jobs and our health care,” said Kyle Singler. “It’s really important to us that Oregonians of all ages realize how much voting matters.”

The Singler brothers were recognized by Oregon Secretary of State Jeanne Atkins for their efforts in promoting voter awareness.

“We are excited to get the word out to young voters. We live in a Country where our voices can be heard by using the power of our ballot,” said Deschutes County Clerk Nancy Blankenship. “Make your voice heard by registering to vote, becoming an informed voter and engaging in the process. There are numerous examples of state and local races won by a small margin of one or more votes - your vote does make a difference!”

“This is a special project for Jackson County as Kyle and E.J Singler are local brothers that reflect the ‘give back when you can’ we find throughout Southern Oregon,” says Jackson County Clerk Chris Walker. “There are so many new things happening in the May 17th Primary and lots of reasons to be excited about casting your vote – it always counts.”
