Get Your Flu Shot

Poster outlining three steps you can take to stay health this flu season.

The first and most important step in preventing flu is to get a flu vaccine each year. Flu vaccine has been shown to reduce flu related illnesses and the risk of serious flu complications that can result in hospitalization or even death. CDC also recommends everyday preventive actions (like staying away from people who are sick, covering coughs and sneezes and frequent handwashing) to help slow the spread of germs that cause respiratory (nose, throat, and lungs) illnesses, like flu.

We recommend scheduling  your flu shots with your Primary Care Provider (PCP) and local Pharmacies. If you do not have a PCP or health insurance, or for some reason cannot get an appointment with your PCP/local pharmacy, you can get a flu shot (by appointment only) at Deschutes County Health Services' safety net clinic at 2577 NE Courtney Dr. every Wednesday from 11-3pm (these are "appointment only" clinics) or at flu clinics scheduled for the vulnerable populations.

It is generally okay to get more than one vaccine at the same time, so you can get your flu vaccine with other vaccines like COVID and Monkey pox (hMPXV) vaccines, however, consider consulting a medical professional for risk assessment before taking Jynneos/Monkeypox & COVID vaccines at the same time (particularly adolescents or young adult males) - you may want to consider waiting 4 weeks between a Jynneos/Monkeypox dose and a COVID vaccine due to unknown risk of myocarditis and/or pericarditis associated with both vaccines.

Check on the Deschutes County Upcoming Events page for upcoming flu clinics.
