At Knott Landfill Recycling Facility, compost is produced from yard debris waste and food scraps by Deschutes Recycling.  The compost meets the quality control standards established by the Seal of Testing Approval. The compost is tested by a US Composting Council-approved lab to ensure quality and reliability.  Compost is available by the yard or cubic foot bags.

Using Compost

Soil Amendment - For best results, till 2"-3" of soil builder into sandy soils before planting. Top dress garden with up to 1/2" a month and lightly mix into soil.

Summer and Winter Mulch - Spread 2"-4" of Soilbuilder or mulch around plants and trees keeping it away from the base of trunks. This prevents moisture build up which creates perfect conditions for wood decay diseases, like fungi.

Lawn Top Dressing - Sprinkle about 1/4" of BioFine over lawn in the spring and fall.

Seed Starter - Sprinkle up to 1/2" of compost over grass or wildflower seeds to keep moist.
