Juvenile Records
Confidential records
Oregon law defines two types of confidential juvenile records: 1) court records, and 2) history and prognosis records. Confidential records may be disclosed only to certain individuals or agencies, and only after a written request and determination that the individual has the authority to view the record.
Court Records
Includes summons, petitions, motions, orders of the court and other papers filed with the court. You must contact the Deschutes County Circuit Court if you would like to inspect or obtain copies of your or your client’s court records. Mail or provide in person a written request by going to the Deschutes County Circuit Court website and then:
- Click the “Materials and Resources” tab at the top
- Scroll down to “Case File Copy Request Form”
- Complete and drop it off in person or mail to:

History and Prognosis Records
Includes police reports, assessments, notes or other narrative information about a youth's background, activities, etc. A youth, or attorney for a youth, who wishes to inspect or obtain copies of the youth's history and prognosis records, must file a request with Deschutes County Juvenile Community Justice.

Public records
Oregon law provides a narrow set of juvenile justice records that may be disclosed to the public on request. Public records include the following information:
If the record or youth named in the record involves a court disposition:
- Youth name and date of birth
- Basis for juvenile court’s jurisdiction
- Date, time and place of any juvenile court proceeding
- Act alleged in petition
- Portion of juvenile court order providing for legal disposition of youth
- Names and addresses of youth’s parents
- Court record register (described in ORS 7.020).
If the record or youth named in the record involves detention/custody:
- Youth name and age, and whether youth is employed or in school
- Offense for which the youth was taken into custody
- Name and age of adult complaining party and adult victim (unless disclosure is otherwise prohibited)
- Identity of investigating and arresting agency
- Time and place a youth was taken into custody and whether there was resistance, pursuit, or a weapon used in taking the youth into custody [ORS 419A.255(6)].
If the record or person named in the record involves a Formal Accountability Agreement:
- Youth name and date of birth
- Act alleged
- Section of agreement providing for disposition of youth
