Retiree Health Coverage

Deschutes County Retiree Health Coverage

Continuing Health Coverage as a Deschutes County Retiree

Under the Retiree Health Insurance Program, employees who are not eligible for Medicare and who apply for retirement benefits with PERS prior or to within 30 days after leaving employment can elect to continue and self pay for the same health insurance coverage as when they were active employees. Premiums vary based on plan type and years of service.  Refer to the current rates for specific details.

Dependents who are enrolled under the plan at the time the employee retires are eligible to continue coverage under the Retiree Health Plan. An enrollment form, available from Human Resources, must be completed to enroll in Retiree Health coverage.  Retiring employees must provide documentation to HR to show that the PERS Service Retirement Application has been submitted and received by PERS.

The Retiree Health Insurance Program is administered by the Deschutes County Human Resources Department.  Please contact Benefits Team by email at benefits@deschutes.org, or by phone at 541-317-3154 if you are interested in continuing on the Retiree Health Insurance Program.
