News Release - County Honors Local Leaders with Chainring Awards 

Next week, Deschutes County will honor two local leaders for their efforts to make Deschutes County bicycle and pedestrian friendly.

The 2016 Big Chainring Award recipients are:

Lifetime Achievement Award: Bob Bryant, ODOT

Bryant, who serves as ODOT’s Region 4 Manager, is being recognized for his efforts to implement the area active transportation plan through staffing and leadership. This program will positively impact all of ODOT’s Region 4 communities through better planning, development and delivery of active transportation facilities.

Individual: Therese Madrigal, Commute Options

Madrigal, who serves as Commute Options Board Chair, is being honored for her tireless work and guidance in supporting the mission of Commute Options while balancing the work and efforts of Central Oregon personnel. Her work has facilitated programs that provide a broad spectrum of benefits to individuals, businesses, and the greater Central Oregon community.

The Deschutes County Commissioners and Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) will recognized Bryant and Madrigal on Monday, June 20, at 10 a.m.  The meeting will be held in the Barnes and Sawyer rooms of the Deschutes County Services Center at 1300 NW Wall Street in Bend.

Since 1996, the Big Chainring Awards have been awarded annually to honor individuals, businesses, and public agencies that have made significant contributions in support of better bicycling and walking in Central Oregon.
