Deschutes County Courthouse, Courtroom A
Bethany Powers Flint will be sworn in as Circuit Court Judge for Position 3 of the 11th Judicial District during an investiture ceremony scheduled for the afternoon of Feb. 26. Presiding Judge Alta J. Brady will preside over the ceremony and administer the Oath of Office.
Ms. Flint takes the position previously held by Circuit Court Judge Roger DeHoog who was appointed to the Oregon Court of Appeals by Governor Kate Brown earlier this year. Ms. Flint’s appointment to the Court was announced by Governor Brown’s office last Friday, Feb. 12. The appointment will run through Dec. 31, 2016 and Ms. Flint, who has already filed for election, will appear on the ballot later this year for a full six year term commencing on Jan. 1, 2017.
Presiding Judge Alta Brady praised both the process engaged by the Governor’s Office in making the appointment and the selection of Ms. Flint to the position. “The Governor’s Office quickly pulled together a thorough and thoughtful process, involving members of our local bar and a state level review of a number of quality candidates. With the Court having recently selected Ms. Flint to serve as its Juvenile Referee, we are well acquainted with her qualifications and skills and believe she will do a wonderful job serving the Citizens of Deschutes County.”
Ms. Flint has been a family law attorney in Deschutes County since 2003. In addition to her private practice, Ms. Flint has most recently served as a juvenile court referee for the Deschutes County Circuit Court and as judge of the City of Bend Municipal Court. Her private practice work is primarily arbitration and mediation of family law cases. Ms. Flint received a law degree from Whittier College School of Law in 2003, and an undergraduate degree from University of California, Irvine in 1999.
