Online Booking Platforms

Vacation Rentals

Several changes have taken place that affect the monthly reporting and remitting of the County’s room tax as explained below.

VRBO®, Airbnb®, and Evolve® Platforms

If you are using VRBO or Airbnb, most will calculate the County’s room tax, collect it, and remit it to the County on your behalf.  These platforms only send one report for the County in total.  These platforms do not report for your individual property.  You are still required to file monthly/quarterly transient room tax to report your gross rent to the County.

See instructions for calculating Total Gross in the Supporting Documents Section toward the bottom of this page.

Other Online Platforms

If you use online platforms other than VRBO, Airbnb, and Evolve, they are required to collect and remit the tax on your behalf beginning July 1, 2018.  Please check with them to verify that they are collecting and remitting the tax for you.  You are still required to file monthly/quarterly transient room tax to report your gross rent to the County.

Other Rentals

If you rent your property for overnight stays yourself through other methods such as Craigslist, word of mouth, or friends and neighbors or other means, you will still be responsible for collecting, reporting and remitting the tax to the County for these rentals.

County Code

County code section 4.08 requires each operator to register with the County and to post their registration number (DCCA#) in all their marketing materials.  Please ensure that you continue to post your registration number regardless of which marketing platform you use to advertise and book your rental property.

Please keep in mind that you are responsible to make sure the taxes are collected and remitted on your rentals.  Please verify with your platform or property manager that the appropriate taxes are being collected and remitted on your behalf.
