Meet our Sexual Health Educators

Emily Wievel, Health Educator

Emily was born and raised in the heart of Wisconsin,  and attended the University of

Wisconsin– Eau Claire, receiving a BA in Women’s Studies and Spanish. She taught English in Argentina after graduating college, and returned to the Midwest to discover an interest in public health.  After three years of working in HIV prevention for a nonprofit organization, she  packed up her car and moved to Bend to work for Deschutes County.  She  loves that her job is a mix of public health, advocacy, and education.

When she’s not working,  she loves to travel, try new restaurants, read,  and attempt to get her pug to go for walks.  She has always wanted to live near the mountains, and is happy  that she gets to explore everything that Bend has to offer.

Georgeanne Windisch, Health Educator

Georgeanne was born and raised in Corvallis, Oregon and attended the University of       Oregon and graduated with a degree in General Science in 2011.  She served as an        AmeriCorps HOPE member with Deschutes County Health Services in 2011-2012 working with the My Future-My Choice program, Sexual Health classroom presentations and The Garrett Lee Smith Suicide Prevention Grant.  She enjoys working with young people and helping empower them to be able to make healthy choices for themselves in their future.  Georgeanne loves living in Bend and enjoys the cycling, skiing and hiking it offers.

Emma Ulrich, Health Educator

Emma moved to Bend after enduring years of rainy weather in Seattle. She planned to stay for a year, but three years later, she is happily settled with no plan to leave. Prior to moving to Central Oregon, Emma completed her B.A. in Social Welfare at the University of Washington, focusing on evidence based program adaptation and implementation. Before joining Deschutes County as a reproductive health educator, she focused on another element of health, fitness, as a manager and instructor at a local fitness studio. Emma is passionate about supporting healthy communities and promoting health equity through her work with young people as a sexual health educator.

In her free time, you will find Emma skiing, mountain biking, cooking and traveling with her husband and friends.

Shelby Adams, Americorps VISTA- Oregon Health Authority

Shelby was born and raised in Kentucky, and has always dreamed of living in the Pacific NW. She attended Western Kentucky University and graduated with a B.S. in Psychological         Sciences and Criminology in the spring of 2015. While earning her degree, Shelby conducted   research using electroencephalogram (EEG) to determine how those with sensation-seeking personality traits monitored errors and adjusted their performance. Shelby discovered her passion for working with at-risk youth while involved with a project examining                    disproportionate minority contact within Kentucky’s juvenile justice system.  After graduation, Shelby received an Americorps VISTA position with Deschutes County Health Services helping to set up a Young Adult Hub in downtown Bend that will offer services to disenfranchised young adults.  Shelby is very excited about her upcoming year with Deschutes County and the opportunity to empower young adults through health education.

In her free time, you will most likely find Shelby with her nose in a book. She also enjoys hiking, traveling, crafting, and cooking for her friends and family.
