Chicago School

Although only one building was constructed in Deschutes County in the Chicago School Style, it is noteworthy. The O’Kane Building completed in 1916 also has the distinction of being the first reinforced concrete structure built in Bend. The buildings style is noted by the design of the second story windows where large picture windows are flanked with double hung windows. This design was commonly found on many buildings constructed in Chicago during the teen and 1920s.

Common characteristics are:

  • large picture window flanked by double-hung windows
  • commercial structure
  • storefront
