The Butler Building was one of the first independent drug stores in Redmond at the time of its construction in 1915.  Just three short years after constructing his store J.D. Butler contracted influenza in a nation-wide epidemic and died.  His wife Meda ran the operation until 1955.  The store had exclusive rights to Rexall & Hyal lines of pharmaceutical products.  The building housed a drugstore for 66 years.
