Shortreed Case Referred to Marion County

Deschutes County Oregon -- June 12, 2008 2:16 PM --

After reviewing reports of an investigation involving Redmond Police Lt. Wayne Shortreed, Deschutes County District Attorney Mike Dugan and his staff have decided that the case warrants a review by an outside District Attorneys Office. Mike Dugan has asked Marion County District Attorney Walt Beglau to assume the position of special prosecutor. Beglau and his staff will take the responsibility of reviewing the reports and making any charging decision.

Deschutes County District Attorney staff often work closely with Redmond Police Department. For the reason of possible conflict of interest, the case has been referred to Marion County.

Lt. Wayne Shortreed is a 20-year veteran of the Redmond Police Department. He was cited for the offenses of harassment. The investigation of this case is ongoing.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office investigation reports of the Shortreed incident will be sent to Marion County today. Walt Beglau will assign a prosecutor to the case.
