Preparation of Recyclable Materials


Aluminum
Clean cans and foil, rinse and remove label.

 

Auto Batteries
Whole batteries only. No cracked or leaking batteries.

 

Corrugated Cardboard/Brown Bags
Flatten. No slick or wax-coated.

 

Glass Bottles & Jars
Clean, remove lids. No ceramics, pyrex, light bulbs, mirrors, baking dishes, or window glass.

 

Magazines, Catalogs & Newspaper

As is.

 

Mixed Paper

Junk mail, paper, envelopes, white & colored paper, computer paper, tin can labels, wrapping paper (no foil or ribbon), shredded paper (strips only, no confetti).

 

Paperboard

Cereal/cracker/shoe boxes, soda & beer cartons, paper egg cartons, paper towel tubes.

 

Plastic Bottles & Jugs
Includes milk jugs, pop & water bottles, yogurt & margarine type tubs, etc. Clean. No lids or dirty bottles.

 

Scrap Metal
Almost all metal items. 

 

Tin Cans
Clean, remove labels. No dirty or rusty cans, paint or aerosol cans.

 

Used Motor Oil
In a non-breakable container with a tight-fitting lid. No antifreeze, gasoline, or solvents.

 

Tires, Appliances, Wood Waste, and Yard Debris
are recycled for a fee.

 

Contact your garbage collector
for details about curbside pickup!

 

Note:  The items listed above are state-mandated recyclable materials.  The Deschutes Recycling site offers more opportunities for recycling items such as books, cereal boxes, and mixed paper.
