Personnel from the Marine Division of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting “parking lot” boat inspections on Saturday, April 19^th , from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at various locations around Deschutes County. This is an opportunity for boat owners to have a safety inspection done, free of charge, on their boats before the start of fishing season. Opening day for most area water bodies (excluding the Big Deschutes River) is April 26 and 27.

Upon passing the safety inspection, a “2008” decal will be applied to the back of the boat; this sticker reduces a boater’s chances of being stopped on the water for a safety inspection. The stickers are good throughout Oregon for the remainder of 2008. If any violations are noted, no punitive action will be taken, and owners will be advised on how to gain compliance.

The parking lot checks will take place at the following locations:

• Bend:              All Seasons RV and Marine                         9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

• Redmond:    Steve Dorn RV and Marine                          9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

• Sisters:          Les Schwab parking lot                                9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

• La Pine:         Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office              9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
