Only inmate mail delivered through the United States Postal Service and bearing the complete name and address of the sender  will be accepted for distribution to inmates.

If the addressee on incoming mail cannot be identified or no longer resides at the facility and the mail was received through the United States Postal Service, the mail will be returned to the Postal Service.

Inmates may receive soft-covered books, magazines and newspapers ONLY if sent to the inmate directly from the publisher.  Soft-covered religious material can be accepted through the front office during regular business hours.

Packages, except new books, magazines and newspapers received directly from the publisher, shall not be accepted unless authorized by the Corrections Command.

We do not accept Polaroid pictures or pictures larger than 4x6.

DO NOT place white-out, stickers, perfume or confetti on letters or envelopes.

DO NOT send blank pieces of paper, envelopes or stamps to inmates.  Inmates are able to purchase these items through commissary.

INMATE PROPERTY

What is the procedure for picking up inmate property?

An inmate must complete a Property Release Form authorizing you to pick up their personal property.  Supervisor approval must be obtained before any property will be released.

You may contact DCAJ Booking at 541-388-6682 to confirm the property release has been approved and the property is ready to be picked up.  Property can be picked up at the Deschutes County Adult Jail – Administration Office during regular business hours.  When picking up property, you will be required to present picture identification.

Inmates transferred to the Department of Corrections are required to release all property in their possession prior to being transferred, with the exception of one set of clothes.  Property will be discarded after 30 days, if it is not picked up.
