GIS Data Set Subscription
Deschutes County GIS data is available for use with your desktop mapping software. Our Data Subscription provides 24 hour access to more than 60 map layers hosted on our FTP server. Layers can be used alone or in combination with other layers. The file format is available in ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) shape file format.
Layers: Over 60 data layers including:
- taxlots w/ associated Assessor tables;
- streets;
- zoning and comprehensive plan;
- boundaries including county,
- cities and tax districts;
- census geography w/ population;
- lakes, rivers, streams, flood plain and wetlands.
Update Frequency: Weekly.
COST: $450 per year. Multi-user discounts available.

SINGLE CD DATASETS
County Data Set
Deschutes County layers in shape file format and tables in dbase iv format are provided on a CD.
COST: $160 per CD
Taxlot Layer
Deschutes County tax lot layer is provided in shape file format on a CD.

2005 USGS 1/2 meter color Digital Ortho Photos
We provide 1/2 meter 2005 USGS Digital Ortho Photos on DVD. The photos are organized by USGS Quad. When ordering DOQs you select the USGS quads you are interested in and we provide you the DOQs for those quads.

Metadata describes the content, quality, condition and other characteristics of data.
Most Deschutes County GIS Data Layers are provided with complete metadata.
Deschutes County provides a PDF which includes documentation for our entire set of GIS data layers. We also provide individual layer metadata in HTML format and XML format attached to the shape file or feature class.

Data Accuracy
Many data layers were created using the taxlots layer as a base and therefore inherit the accuracy of the taxlots layer. The accuracy of the taxlots layer varies with the method used to capture the data. In the urban areas of Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Tumalo, Terrebonne, and La Pine, the tax lots were created using coordinate geometry (cogo), and in rural areas the tax lots were digitized from existing Assessor's Maps. We are presently remapping digitized areas of the county and are tying the taxlots to improved control.
