To work in partnership with the communities we serve to support the core functions of public health; advocate for the needs of citizens suffering health disparities; promote community health needs and issues, develop policy, set priorities and provide assessment and assurance that services are delivered to all individuals and communities that need them.

Purpose

The Public Health Community Advisory Board is established to enhance community relations with Deschutes County Health Department (DCHD), increase public knowledge about public health issues, and assist in the betterment of services provided by DCHD. The Board also advises the Board of County Commissioners concerning matters of public health and the operation of the public health system.

Board Member Responsibilities

The Board is responsible for providing advice, leadership and guidance in support of the Health Department’s mission.

Board members shall:

Advocate for a strong and collaborative state and local public health system.
Participate in ensuring the Health Department is operating in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Promote Health Department services within the community.
Participate in reviewing the annual Health Department budget.
Participate in planning, measuring, and evaluating health department goals.
Advocate for the resources necessary to assure the provision of essential public health functions.
Annually analyze and determine the Board’s focus/work projects, priorities, and progress.
