Voting Absentee
All elections in Oregon are conducted by mail. Ballots will be mailed to all registered voters.
If you will be out of Deschutes County and need to vote an absentee ballot prior to the 18th day before an election, you may apply for an absentee ballot.
To register as an absentee voter, you must be currently registered in Deschutes County. If you are not an active registered voter in Deschutes County, please also complete and submit a Voter Registration Form (sel 500). If we receive an absentee request without an active registration, it will delay processing your request.
Timelines to Mail Absentee Ballots:
Military or Out of Country. Ballots for military voters and voters living outside the United States will be mailed the 45th day before an election. Military/Long Term Absentee Application Form (used for all military personnel, dependents or employment outside the U.S.)
Voters With an Out-of-State Mailing Address. Ballots for electors with an out-of-state mailing address will be mailed the 29th day before an election. Absentee Ballot Request Form (used primarily for students, "snowbirds" or employment within the U.S.)
Voters With an In-State Mailing Address. Ballots for electors with an in-state mailing address will be mailed between the 14th and 18th day before the election. Absentee Ballot Request Form (used primarily for students, "snowbirds" or employment within the U.S.)
Your voted ballot must be received in the County Clerk's office or a drop site location by 8:00 p.m. on election day. Postmarks Do Not Count.
