Threatening or intimidating behavior and violence in the workplace are unacceptable forms of conduct and should not be tolerated. Increasingly across the nation, employers large and small are setting specific policies for responding to FV. In fact, a nationwide organization, Employers Against Domestic Violence is growing. FV workplace policies need to include steps to take if an act or threat of FV occurs at work. Every employer is responsible to maintain a violence-free workplace. Policies may also include steps to take to ensure support for FV victims. That may take the form of posted information and handouts with phone numbers for services. Employers can offer a chance to discuss the situation with a supervisor or human resources person. Policies may even include admonishment of violent & disrespectful behavior if the offender is an employee, especially when the victim is also an employee.
