Mike Daly
DESCHUTES COUNTY, BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

Commissioner Mike Daly joined Deschutes County in January 2001, bringing to the County a background gained through a wealth of business and government experiences.

 

Mike was born in Bend and raised on a ranch in the small Central Oregon farming community of Culver. As an adult, he began his public services as a member of the Oregon State Police for nine years, after which time he was employed as a legal investigator for a law firm. He also worked as a real estate entrepreneur, and eventually began a successful 17-year career as an excavation contractor in Redmond. He is an experienced private pilot, and holds a commercial pilot's license.

 

Commissioner Daly first gained experience in local government when he served on the Redmond Planning Commission.  He went on to serve on the State Construction Contractor’s Board in Salem, having been appointed to his first four year term by then Governor Barbara Roberts.  Governor John Kitzhaber  re-appointed Commissioner Daly to an additional four year term, and he served as Chairman of the Board for two years. 

 

Commissioner Daly represents Region 10, which includes Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook Counties and is a member of the governing board of The Oregon Consortium. The organization is a consortium of 23 rural Oregon Counties that controls funds going to the Oregon Workforce Alliance, a group that retrains displaced workers.  Mike is also a board member of the Central Oregon Visitors Association (COVA) a local organization that promotes tourism in Central Oregon.  He also is Chairman of the Hospital Authority Board in Deschutes County. Nationally, Commissioner Daly is a member of the Justice & Public Safety Committee for the National Association of Counties (NACO).

 

Volunteer projects have also benefited from Mike's participation. He has utilized his knowledge and the assets of his business to help build the Dave Jaqua "Field of Dreams" in Redmond; facilities to house the Boys and Girls Clubs in Redmond and Terrebonne; and various Habitat for Humanity projects. Prior to becoming a commissioner, he coordinated the efforts of a volunteer group to build additional parking at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and Expo Center

 

Mike lives on a small farm in Redmond with his wife, Darlene. Together they raise exotic animals and share their home with their pet monkey, Andy.

 

Mike is excited about utilizing his experiences and knowledge in his position of Deschutes County Commissioner in order to benefit the region he knows so well and appreciates so much.
