Tom Anderson - Deschutes County Administrator

Tom Anderson was appointed County Administrator on April 3, 2013. Tom has a strong background in public administration. He was hired by Deschutes County in 1998 as Senior Management Analyst/Operations Manager in CDD and promoted to CDD Director in February 2005. The Deschutes County Administrator is the Chief Administrative Officer. He is responsible for the administration and management of the County and its service districts and works under the direction of the Board of County Commissioners.

The County Administrator has specific authority to perform all day-to-day functions necessary for the administration and management of County affairs. The County Administrator provides direction to others concerning budget and the operation and maintenance of the personnel system.

Anderson provides direction to the appointed department heads and is the first point of contact with elected County officials. He supervises all administrative departments including Veterans' Services, Risk Management, Personnel, Internal Auditing, Public Communications and Building and Maintenance Services.

Prior to his employment with Deschutes County, Tom worked for the City of Long Beach, CA for 12 years in progressively responsible positions in a several departments, including General Services, Community Development, Budget Office, and City Manager’s Office. Tom has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
