Deschutes County Oregon -- 4/5/2011 --
April 10 through 16, is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. This year’s theme “Reshaping the Future, Honoring the Past” pays tribute to the millions of crime victims over the decades who have summoned the strength to rebuild their lives, families, and communities, one step at a time. The week also honors the victim service community whose members, including volunteers, have assisted victims through their journey of healing. At this time, Deschutes County seeks volunteers to assist local victims of crime.
The Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office Victims Assistance Program (VAP) seeks volunteers to assist with the program’s mission “To involve crime victims and the community in a restorative process that diminishes the devastating impact of crime.”
Volunteers are needed assisting with courtroom advocacy, with the victims impact panel; following-up with victims of crime for purposes of connecting victims with resources, restitution, criminal justice system information, answering phones and more. Volunteers are also needed to collaborate with law enforcement and community agencies to quicken the communication process so victims do not go without services.
All potential volunteers must clear a background check and receive provided training prior to joining the VAP team.
For application information please call Victims’ Assistance Program Coordinator Diane Stecher at (541) 317-3186 or (541) 388-6525.
