County seeks volunteers to assist local victims of crime

Deschutes County Oregon -- 1/13/2012 --

Deschutes County seeks volunteers to assist local victims of crime. A two-day training for potential volunteers is scheduled to take place Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28.

The Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office Victims Assistance Program seeks volunteers to assist with the program’s mission "To involve crime victims and the community in a restorative process that diminishes the devastating impact of crime."

Volunteers are needed to assist victims of crime for the purpose of connecting victims with resources, restitution information collection, criminal justice system information, courtroom advocacy, DUII victim’s impact panel, answering phones and more. Volunteers are also needed to collaborate with law enforcement and community agencies to facilitate services for victims of crime.

All potential volunteers will be fingerprinted and must clear an Oregon background and DMV check before working with the Victims Assistance Program.

For more information about the training and the application process, please call Victims’ Assistance Program Coordinator Diane Stecher at (541) 317-3186 or (541) 388-6525.
