Spay and Neuter Grant Application Process Now Open

Deschutes County Oregon -- 12/1/2011 --

Deschutes County is offering $13,000 in grants to local non-profit organizations that provide spay and neutering services. Grant applications are due Friday, December 16, 2011.

In November 2007, Deschutes County dog license and pet ID applications were changed to include a voluntary donation for spay and neuter services. Each year, the donations are offered to non-profit spay and neuter organizations in Deschutes County that provide services to residents who would not otherwise pay for the pet procedures due to financial constraints or physical limitations. Grant funds may also be used for educational or promotional programs focused on expanding spay and neuter services in Deschutes County.

Requirements for applicants to the community grant program include the following: the applicant must be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, must be located in Deschutes County, and proceeds from the grant must be used in support of Deschutes County residents. Applications will be judged based on several criteria, including organizational stability, connection to grant funding objectives and leverage for organization to receive other funding.

The deadline to apply for a grant is December 16, 2011, and grants will be awarded in January 2012. The application form is now available on the Deschutes County website at www.deschutes.org. Completed applications must be mailed or sent electronically (davidi@deschutes.org) to the Deschutes County Administrative Services department on or before the deadline.
