New Ballot Boxes Offer 24-Hour Drop-Off Service

Deschutes County Oregon -- 5/2/2011 --

Deschutes County Clerk Nancy Blankenship announced today the availability of new 24-hour ballot drop boxes in Bend, Redmond and La Pine. The May 17 special election will be the first time voters will use the boxes that were purchased with Help America Vote Act  (HAVA) dollars. The new boxes provide 24-hour ballot drop-off service to voters in Deschutes County.

In order for ballots to be counted, they must be delivered to a drop site location prior to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, May 17. The hours and service of ballot box drop-off locations not included in this notice remain the same.

La Pine Library drop box
The La Pine Library (16425 1st Street) drop box is located in the planting area west of the library. The box will open Friday, May 13 through 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, May 17.

Redmond Library drop box
The Redmond Library is located at 827 SW Deschutes Ave. and the new drop box is in the library’s planting area west of the building near the corner of 9th Street and Cascade Avenue. The box will be open Friday, May 13 through 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, May 17.

Bend drop box location-Deschutes County Road Department
A large drop box has been installed at the County Road Department at 61150 SE 27th St. in Bend. The drop box is located next to the sidewalk leading to the front door of the building. The box will be open Friday, May 13 through 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, May 17.

The boxes are one of several purchases made with HAVA funding for new and updated equipment by Deschutes County Elections. Oregon HAVA funds have been used to provide greater accessibility to Oregon’s election and voting process.
