The County opens the community grant application process once a year to assist non-profit organizations in addressing emergency services, abuse and neglect, health services and other areas of need. The grants are reserved for projects addressing needs in multiple areas and affecting a broad scope of the community.
Generally, community grant application projects are not limited to, but should fit within one of the following interest areas:
1. Providing emergency food, clothing and shelter to those who would otherwise go without these essentials.
2. Protection for abused and/or neglected individuals who lack resources to otherwise obtain such protection.
3. Health care, mental health care and addictions treatment for individuals who lack resources to otherwise obtain such care.
4. Juvenile crime prevention programs for at-risk youth
5. Other essential services to underserved and indigent populations, especially children and seniors.
Requirements for applicants to the community grant program include the following: the applicant must be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, must be located in Deschutes County, and the proceeds from the grant must be utilized in support of Deschutes County residents.
The deadline to apply for a community grant is April 29 and grants recipients will be announced in June. The application form is available on the Deschutes County website at www.deschutes.org. Completed applications must be sent electronically to davidi@deschutes.org by Friday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m.
