Deschutes County Oregon -- 5/28/2011 --
The Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is currently seeking interested candidates to fill two vacant positions. BPAC's mission is to promote and encourage safe bicycling and walking as a significant means of transportation in Deschutes County.
The Committee’s goals include the development of a coordinated system of safe and convenient bikeways and walkways, stimulating public awareness of bicycling and pedestrian issues, and examining current and future financing options and budget strategies for bicycle and pedestrian projects.
BPAC serves to advise Deschutes County officials and local jurisdictions in bicycle and pedestrian transportation and matters pertaining to existing and proposed road construction and signing. The Committee is a source of current information relating to the use of bicycle and walking as a means of transportation and strives to support them as a viable means of transportation in Deschutes County.
BPAC is seeking volunteer candidates throughout Deschutes County including Terrebonne, La Pine, and Redmond. BPAC currently has adequate representation for Bend and Sisters. Candidates with a background and/or interest in cycling and pedestrian issues are encouraged to apply. A majority of the monthly meetings take place in Bend from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.
The Committee consists of nine voting members appointed by the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners. Voting members are asked to serve a three-year term.
Please apply by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1. The Board application process will remain open until filled. The Board hopes to appoint new Committee members by July.
