Changes to Geographic Information Systems Data

Periodically, Deschutes County makes changes to Geographic Information Systems data files. The changes are a result of our efforts to continuously improve the accuracy and quality of our data. At times we remove files due to data issues. We also make new files available to our data subscribers. We utilize this section of the website to share information about the major data changes. The changes are reflected in the chronological listing below:

January 2011 - The Plainview Ranch area has been remapped with taxlots and other Geographic Information Systems data now tied to control. Data within Township 1611 now reflect the correct positional location.

March 2010 -  The taxlots theme is now being updated through new ArcGIS routines and no longer relies on coverages. A new field called Mapnumber has been added as one of the attributes. In addition, the autodate attribute is now active and can be used to research the date taxlots have been added or modified.

January 2009 -  The Cloverdale and greater Sisters area has been remapped with taxlots and all other Geographic Information Systems data now tied to control. Data within Townships 1410, 1411, 1412, and 1510 now reflect their correct positional location.

August 2007 -  Geographic Information Systems data are now available as File Based Geodatabases. While shapefiles remain available on the FTP site, the new File Based Geodatabase offers some significant advantages for users of ESRI ArcGIS software. The geodatabase is the common data storage and management framework for ArcGIS. One advantage of the file based geodatabase is that attribute data that are maintained by the County using geodatabase domains have the domain values copied directly to the file.

August 2007 - Subdivisions are now part of the standard Geographic Information Systems data set. The subdivision map layer shows the location and boundaries of recorded subdivisions within the County. Please note that subdivisions are mapped in phases versus being summarized for all phases of a subdivision. The map layer is maintained by our County Surveyor's Office and is updated on a weekly basis.

July 2007 - Taxlots within South County have been remapped and are now tied to accurate control. Other Geographic Information Systems map layers that are based upon the taxlots theme are in the process of being adjusted to the new taxlot geometry.

June 2005 - Major data changes were put into affect to accommodate the maintenance of Geographic Information Systems files in the County's ESRI SDE environment. A special meeting was held with data subscribers to describe the changes and extensive information was distributed. One of the major changes put into place was to remove attribute information from the taxlots theme. Attribute information must now be linked from the taxlot tables. Please see metadata files for more information.
