County College

Have you wondered how your County tax dollars are spent? Do you know what services Deschutes County provides to you? Each summer, residents have an opportunity to apply for Deschutes County College, a free and fun program aimed at educating the community about their county government.

Deschutes County is committed to engaging the community about their county government and provides residents with an in-depth way to connect with employees and services of the County.

Deschutes County College is held for nine consecutive Tuesday evenings each fall-beginning early September. Class sessions include a tour of the Knott Landfill Recycling and Transfer Facility, hands-on tour of Road Department equipment with rotating information stations, a behind-the-scenes tour during a Deschutes County election, and much more!

Each session provides residents with interactive programs and information about County services and the impact these programs have on residents' daily lives.

Sessions will include topics such as:
Property assessment and taxation
The Deschutes County budget
Public safety
County governance and the policy making process
Health services
Road maintenance and solid waste
Community development and land use planning
Records and elections

Space is limited, consistent attendance is required to graduate, and an application and background check are required to participate. The application process begins each summer.
